Individual Capstone Project Journal Entries
January 30th
I have decided that for this project, I will be creating an elaborate website. Some key elements I want to include are the business services I offer, as well as those I hope to begin offering.
A few pages I’m particularly interested in developing include a User-Generated Content (UGC) services page—something I will need to further learn how to structure and deliver. Personal branding will be especially important here, as it will help distinguish me within this market. Other pages will include my communication and marketing business, my art page for Juliette Botanicals, my resume, and a blog.
I also researched platforms I could use to build the website. I signed up for ReadyMag and learned how to edit and structure my site through research and by watching YouTube tutorials on setting up web pages.

Today, I worked with AI to deepen my understanding of my personal brand. I gained clarity on my values as a creative, thoughtful professional who listens deeply, takes young voices seriously, and turns ideas into work that creates clarity, confidence, and forward motion.
I also watched videos on popular 2026 website design aesthetics, as well as tutorials on editing in ReadyMag. I spent more time working on my ReadyMag site, but I’m finding it challenging. I’m considering switching to Wix, as it feels more intuitive for me and may allow me to build the page with less friction.

I’ve been doing research on how to build a UGC business. I’ll need to develop a strong portfolio and learn how to pitch effectively to clients. I’ve also been doing a lot of moodboarding to get a clearer sense of the visual direction and overall vibe I want for my page—something that will amplify my personal brand.

I’ve been brainstorming how to create a webpage that clearly communicates the multiple areas I want to cover, while keeping each section distinct yet cohesive. I’ve also been developing branding guides—one for my “Hey Juliette” page and another for my personal pages.
I spent a lot of time figuring out typefaces that work consistently across platforms, which ended up being more challenging than I expected lol. For “Hey Juliette,” I chose Montserrat and Droid Serif, and for my personal page, Lato and Playfair Display.
For the “Hey Juliette” logo, I created a design using a cursive, handwritten typeface. I like how human and personal it feels, as that’s a value I really want to communicate to my clients.

I switched my website over to Wix, and I’m finding it much easier to use. I’ve started building out the homepage layout and creating a menu for my other pages.
I also hired a photographer to take professional headshots, and I’m really happy with how they turned out. They add a strong sense of credibility and professionalism to my page.
Right now, I’ve started organizing the “bones” of the site and laying the foundation for the rest of the content.

I have been focusing primarily on my client project for my digital publishing and marketing class. I’m using this assignment to gain deeper insight into the key audience for my Hey Juliette business. It has helped me better define who my clients are, what they need, and how I should present my services as solutions to their problems.
I’ve created a strong presentation outlining how I will approach digital marketing for this business, and I’ve been using these new insights to inform the way I’m building this section of my website.
Furthermore, I've landed my first client for Hey Juliette

I’ve been focusing a lot on the messaging for my Hey Juliette business in my publishing design final assignment. I put a lot of effort into it, and I’m really happy with how the layout turned out—it looks great and will be a strong document to share with future clients.
I’ve also uploaded it to my website. I showed it to my grandma and got her feedback, which was helpful in giving me another perspective on where I can refine my work further.

I’ve been going all in on designing my website. Unfortunately, I’m feeling a bit disappointed with the lack of certain professional features on Wix—things like more refined button options, guides and rulers, and the ability to import fonts. It’s frustrating, especially since I’m already paying quite a bit for it. It also glitches pretty often, which is definitely testing my patience haha.
I keep revisiting sections and refining them—it’s tough using a web design platform when you’re a perfectionist. I’d be interested in exploring WordPress next time. Even though it involves more backend coding, I think I could manage, especially since I took a web development class in high school and learned the basics.
I honestly wish there were a web design platform with an interface similar to InDesign, where I could have full control and get everything exactly how I want it. That said, my website is nearly ready to launch!!!

I’m finalizing my resume page, revisiting the design of my resume as a PDF, and creating a bilingual version as well. My UGC page and Juliette Botanicals page won’t be ready by tomorrow, but that’s okay—I want to spend more time refining the branding and thinking more deeply about those sections before building them out.
Overall, I’m satisfied with how the website has come together. I’ve been reviewing the small details, checking links, and making sure everything functions smoothly. Tonight, I’m practicing presenting my work, and hopefully everything will go smoothly tomorrow!
